Identification

The male has a black head, chestnut back and bright yellow underparts; the female is paler.

Habitat

Open, dry areas with scattered bushes and trees, often farmland with bushes between plots, orchards and forest edges.

Distribution

Lowlands in the southern half of the country (Banat, the Romanian Plain and Dobrogea).
